THE SONY GAME
(To the tune of "The Devil Game," from the Kansas album Song for America)

I've got books that say the good band's golden
And more that say the bad will fall
So many bands have drowned in contracts
And left CBS standing tall
Don't take the Sony dare; don't gamble when the game ain't fair
Play what's in your heart; don't let the label compromise your art

You'd better listen, all you drums and keyboards
You miss any notes, you make 'em right
You can't be a make-believer
'Cause soon they'll make you pay the price
Lawyers, shows and fame: all parts of the Sony game
Got their foot inside the door, but you can't let 'em use you anymore

Take, they will take, they will take; give them nothing
They'll take, they will take, they will take
They will give nothing but they'll take

Play, for labels have no reason
Sony waits to curse your songs
Have you seen it in their eyes in the spotlight?
Have you wondered if they're laughing when you play?
Have they asked if you're alone when what they see is all you own?
Have they offered you happiness, money or much better gigs?
Sony leave me; leave me lonely, leave us alone

I've got books that say the good band's golden
And more that say the bad will fall
Take a look 'cause what the future's holdin'
Won't be yours if you don't heed the call
Tonight play the game, but the stakes will remain the same
Now you gotta choose: is the label gonna win or lose again?
