JOURNEY FROM WASHINGTON
(To the tune of "Journey from Mariabronn," from the Kansas album Kansas)

Two conspired together, schemed as one
Each one to the other had become "more than a friend"
Lying to meet a common end
They knew how; each one vowed not to tell

Still the elder knew it was not smart
Raw emotions in the young one's heart threatened their plan
Both feared it might get out of hand
Then Ken Starr got as far as those tapes

It frustrates me how we can be so close and yet worlds apart
Can it be my misery has torn our lives in two from the very start?
I screamed for the agents to let me in; I called up to Betty in my chagrin
Today I demanded employment and not one of your partners in crime would hire me

Fear of jail time filled the young one's heart:
"Tell the truth and prove I'm not a tart!"
Far from her home; striving to make her life her own
In her soul, she has found her own way

Each the other now has fully spurned
Dignity despoiled; their deeds will burn in eternal shame
