DISAPPEARING WEB SITE BLUES
(To the tune of "Disappearing Skin Tight Blues," from
the Kansas album
Somewhere to Elsewhere)
I'm livin' above the fault line, like a bird up on a wire
A heartbeat from unemployment, and constantly under fire
Now, I thought for sure I'd win one; made sure to hedge my bets
Now I have to start all over again and shake off all these debts
The crash tore down my defenses; left me crying in my beer
Then I left my old site behind and it started to disappear
Now there's something in the pipeline, and it's lookin' mighty fine
There's a dot.com in the planning, and I'm sure getting back online
In the interest of my investments, I'm about to take the plunge
I'm gonna take it, hook, line, and sinker, and I'll work in the floorboard
grunge
Got a plan with new direction, and investors for the ride
Now I'll drink a toast to mammon; "let my conscience be my guide..."
Oh, how you woo me with cash and stocks
No longer on the rocks
Just like a lover you pull me in
Got my domain registration
When my account's empty you pump me up
Now overrunneth my cup
You touch me right where my wallet's full
I'm gonna launch this site and reappear
I open the mail and look inside, and I don't like what I see
Our IPO just took a dive, and my broker's callin' me
In the interest of self-preservation, my investors I'll avoid
Got a million eyes every morning, but our profit's null and void
Need a plan with new direction; got to stop this market slide
I'll beseech the gods of mammom: "Take my conscience for a ride..."
Oh, how you wooed me with cash and stocks
Now I'm back on the rocks
Just like the quicksand you sucked me in
Lost my domain registration
Now my account's empty with none to save
More debt than I'll ever pay
You dropped me right when my wallet's dull
I'm gonna dump this site and disappear
