Distant Vision
Amateur backyard photos of the Challenger disaster

The following set of photographs was sent to me by Alastair Fairbairn of Norwich, England, who purchased the photos at a car boot sale (the equivalent of an American yard sale) in 1991.  According to information accompanying the photos, they were taken by one Robbie Robison in Orlando, Florida, more than fifty miles from the Cape Canaveral launch site.  Whatever may have inspired Mr. Robison to take a series of photos of the shuttle's launch in the first place, he obviously had the presence of mind to continue snapping pictures even after it became clear that something had gone very, very wrong.
